To the history buff, this was where men armed in varying degrees of body armor tore upon each other while Patricians and Plebeians watched.

To the eternal romantic, this was also where Audrey Hepburn’s Princess Ann and Gregory Peck’s Joe Bradley rode a Vespa scooter.

Whether it’s love, gore and even pure aesthetics, the Colosseum has something to offer to all of its visitors.

During its heyday, this majestic edifice could accommodate more than 50,000 spectators.

Yet nowadays, the Italian government would allow only 3000 visitors inside the Colosseum at a time.

Since this historical landmark remains open for only 11 hours daily (from 8.30 am to 7.15 pm), this means that only 33000 visitors are allowed daily.

In a way, therefore, colosseum tickets are sold out quickly and you have to book your colosseum tickets in advance to avoid losing out.

How far in Advance can you Book your Colosseum Admission Tickets?

Depending on the ticket type, Colosseum tickets are sold throughout the year on a schedule.

You can usually book your tickets at least a month in advance.

But during non-peak seasons the demand for Colosseum admission tickets is less and you can book much before.

In case you’ve booked your visit way ahead of time, you can join the queue for ‘visitors with reservations’ at the Colosseum’s entry gates.
